Wine Racks That Rock!

After finishing a plumbing project I had a few pieces of PVC pipe leftover. While I was cleaning the garage and staring at this loose stack of pipes I reached a crossroads. Do I toss them up into the rafters for a later project or cut them up to recycle? As i stood there scratching my head my girlfriend walked in with a bottle of wine and two glasses. “I thought you could use a break.” she said as she set the bottle down inside a short piece of piping that lay on the table.

Upon, seeing this I immediately had an epiphany. I pulled out my phone and began searching online for pictures of “PVC winerack”. I discovered one I liked that had four short lengths of pipe screwed together sitting on a tabletop. I showed the picture to my lovely counterpart and she was sold. Then came the ever-important question of how to take this idea to the proverbial “next level”.

At the time, I was in the process of turning dead space in the basement into a bar and area for socializing. I was looking to create a modern space with room for wine bottles and plenty of drinking glasses. I really wanted to stray from the conventional idea of wine bottles all sitting organized in pretty little rows. I wanted something with a bit more whimsy.

Thus, I came up with this. As the project evolved I began to envision the bubbles in a glass of champagne. I scrounged a couple smaller pipes and… Eureka! Modern, whimsical and definitely next level! I liked it so much I built one above the fridge at the cabin and surrounded it with reclaimed wood. Give this one some thought and see if you can picture any ways to bring this idea to yet another level. This link has some great ideas on repurposing. Maybe there are some ideas to take those to ninja status as well. Repurposewine-racks-pvc
